When our family gathered for photos this year, it wasn’t just about capturing a moment — it was about honoring the generations of togetherness that shaped who we are.
I’m the youngest of four, raised in a home where family was the foundation of everything. Holidays meant piling into the station wagon for the three‑hour drive to our grandparents’ house, where cousins filled every corner and laughter spilled out of every room. My dad had a signature move on those trips — “turning off the rain” as we passed under an overpass — and for years I believed he had some kind of magic.
Our childhood was full of simple adventures that strengthened our bond. We camped in a pop‑up camper proudly labeled The Crewse 6, attended nature programs, picked watercress from cold streams, and watched wildlife wander through our campsite. My mom, a Missouri Master Naturalist and lifelong bird enthusiast, taught us to slow down and notice the world around us. She can still spot a four‑leaf clover in a field of green and recall the exact bird we saw on an outing decades ago.
While my mom nurtured our love for nature, my dad nurtured our connection to our roots. He served as our family historian, traveling the country with my mom to research our genealogy and preserving generations of stories in a large hard‑bound book. His dedication ensured that our history wasn’t just remembered — it was documented and passed forward.
Together, my parents taught us what it means to show up for one another. Those lessons — to welcome every new family member with open arms, to support each other without hesitation, and to stay connected through every season — have carried into adulthood. What began as a family of six has grown into a much larger crew of spouses, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren, all woven into the same legacy of togetherness.
That’s part of why having Adrianne photograph our family has meant so much. She’s known my parents for years, and the genuine kindness she’s shown them—and our whole family—has always meant so much to us. There’s something special about being photographed by someone who understands the history behind the faces — someone who has seen our family through different chapters and captures us with that awareness. These photos reflect not just who we are today, but the long story that brought us here.
They’re a snapshot of our roots, our resilience, and the connection that continues to define our family.
Our family has been so blessed to have moved into the house next door to the sweetest, kindest people. Naomi and Jack thank you so much for all the love, support, laughs and fun! We love you so much! - Adrianne
