What NOT to Wear! - Senior Edition

Let’s be real—when it comes to senior portraits, everyone stresses about what to wear.

Here's a quick list of Top 5 NOT to Wear:

1. Skirts that you cannot move in without revealing what your mama gave you.

2. Clothes that have been laying in a pile in your room with wrinkles and lint all over them.

3. Anything you don't feel fabulous in (unless it's just 1 or 2 pictures for mom, them quickly we can do that and move on to your choices)

4. Tight and Too Small clothing:  We want you to be able to be free feeling and pose in many different ways.

5. Busy Patterns: While patterns can add visual interest to your outfit, overly busy prints can steal the spotlight and detract from your face. Choose simpler designs or solids that allow your personality to shine through without overwhelming the frame.

Now that we got that out of the way let's brainstorm some ideas on what DOES add to your senior portraits!

(aka what you SHOULD totally wear 😉)

What to Wear to Your Senior Portraits

Bring more than one outfit

(layers are your best friend)

If you want variety in your senior photos without a ton of effort, layers are the easiest way to make that happen.

Think:

  • Jackets
  • Cardigans
  • Flannels
  • Hats

These pieces instantly change the vibe of your look without needing a full outfit change. You can go from casual to a little more dressed up in seconds, while still keeping a cohesive feel throughout your gallery.

More looks, less effort.

Wear things that represent you

(this is your story)

Your senior session should reflect who you are right now.

Bring things you love:

  • Your violin
  • A soccer ball
  • A basketball
  • Dance shoes
  • Anything that represents your passions

These details make your photos feel personal and meaningful—and they always end up being some of the most memorable images.

Include what’s next

(celebrate your future)

If you already know where you’re headed after graduation, let’s include that in your session.

Bring:

  • A college tee or sweatshirt
  • A hat
  • Anything from your future school

It’s such a fun way to capture this in-between moment—right before everything changes.

Choose shoes you can actually walk in

(Or bring a backup pair!  You can switch into something comfortable between locations and keep your feet happy.)

We’ll be moving around quite a bit to get the best spots, so comfort matters.

Bring:

  • Easy slide-ons
  • Sandals
  • Sneakers

That said—your shoes also help complete your look.

The right pair can totally change the feel of your outfit:

  • Cowboy boots + a hat = fun and styled
  • Clean sneakers = effortless and cool
  • Heels = elevated and confident

So bring the cute shoes… just don’t forget the practical ones too.
